Who was Hugo Smyth?Hugo Smyth is the youngest of 6 children. Tragically on the 31st of December 2006, Hugo drowned in the swimming pool at home. Despite courageous attempts by his family and members of the surf life saving community, he was unable to be resuscitated. His passing shocked the Coffs Harbour Surf Life Saving Community and the impact of losing one of their own brought home the realisation that it can indeed happen to anyone. The Smyth family are an active part of the surf club and Hugo could always be seen at training and on the beach playing with his brothers, sisters and other younger club members. He was much loved and is deeply missed by his family and friends. Despite his young age Hugo had an impact on many around him, his passing reaffirmed the importance of spreading the water safety message and promoting lifesaving as a skill for life.The Hugo Smyth Memorial Classic has been created to not only celebrate Hugo’s life but to remind us all of the importance of developing lifesaving skills, on and off the sand. In Hugo’s honour, it is our intention to raise funds to help develop water safety and first aid skills beyond the surf community. It is our belief that everyone should know how to perform CPR. The carnival’s format will be based around several events including board relays , ironman events, a 2km soft sand run, and the main event “Hugo’s Island Classic” which will consist of a paddle around little Muttonbird Island. Competition will take place at the Southern end of Park Beach. Entry fee - $30.00 includes event t shirt, bag, presentation BBQ and entry in random prize draws. |

Board Relay
2km Soft Sand Run (hard but fun-all encouraged to be in it!!)
*New Event added - Ironman Relay (Board/Run/Swim) 3 person club team
1st, 2nd and 3rd place getters have the oppourtunity to win cash prizes.
