Distance runners Joel Harrigan and Melissa Bulloch remain undefeated race champions after going back-to-back in the 10km long-course Australia Day Fun Run around the Coffs Jetty Foreshores.
Both were respectively first male and female home in 2009’s inaugural staging and repeated the dose yesterday, with Harrigan crossing the line first in a time of 40 minutes and 20 seconds.
Brother-sister act Richard and Nicole Pearson claimed victory in the 5km run while Greg Robson (male) and Romney Seemann (female) stormed home in the 2km division.
Staged by Coffs Harbour Surf Life Saving Club, president Terry Maher predicted heat wave conditions may force the start time back an hour next year.
“The long run will almost certainly go off at 8am,” he said.
“Numbers were up overall but dropped off in the longer race with more concentrating on the shorter events.
“Humidity is a problem for all but the really dedicated specialise in the long race.”
